After receiving a rapturous response from audiences and critics alike, Hulu has renewed their adaptation of The Handmaid’s Tale for a second season.

Based on Margaret Atwood’s bestselling book, the TV series developed by Bruce Miller just released its fourth episode and is already one of the most talked about TV shows of the year. Well, at least in America as Hulu isn’t currently available to audiences worldwide. BOOOOOO!

The series stars Golden Globe winner Elizabeth Moss, Joseph Fiennes, Alexis Bledel, Yvonne Strahovski and Orange is the New Black’s Samira Wiley. As us Brits only have the trailers to go on thus far, The Handmaid’s Tale looks like an uncompromising version of the book.

Hulu’s head of content Craig Erwich, Hulu’s SVP and head of content had this to say about the renewal.

“The response we’ve seen to ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ in just one week since its premiere has been absolutely incredible. It has been an honor to work with this talented team of cast and creators to develop a series that has struck such a chord with audiences across the country. As we continue to expand our strong slate of original programming, ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ is exactly the type of gripping and thought-provoking storytelling we want to bring to viewers. We can’t wait to explore the world of Gilead and continue Margaret’s vision with another season on Hulu.”

The Hulu adaptation is the first time that Atwood’s book has been brought to life since the 1990 film directed by Volker Schlöndorff that starred Natasha Richardson, Faye Dunaway and Robert Duvall. We’ll let you know as soon as the first season has found a UK broadcaster until then do your best to avoid spoilers.
